Israeli warplanes strike Syria
The state news agency reported that Israeli fighter jets conducted two strikes near the town of Al-Mazraa and a third near Kanaker. While material damage was confirmed, no information on casualties has been released.
The Israeli military stated that the airstrikes targeted several tanks moving between Al-Mazraa and Sami’ towards Suwayda, aiming to prevent their arrival in the region.
“The IDF (army) will not allow the establishment of a military threat in southern Syria and will operate against it,” the military declared.
Earlier the same day, Syrian security forces initiated an operation in Suwayda to restore stability following deadly clashes between Druze and Bedouin groups. The violence has resulted in at least 30 deaths and more than 100 injuries.
Local sources reported that the fighting escalated quickly after armed factions seized vehicles from each other, leading to heavy exchanges involving medium and heavy weapons.
Despite frequent Israeli strikes on Syrian territory since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime late last year, Syria’s current government has so far refrained from issuing threats against Israel.
