Syrian army declares SDF positions in Aleppo as legitimate targets

(MENAFN) The Syrian armed forces announced on Wednesday that locations held by PKK/YPG-affiliated forces operating under the SDF banner in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh districts are now considered “legitimate targets,” citing what it described as an escalation and “massacres” carried out in the province, as stated by reports.

The statement followed a second consecutive morning of shelling by the SDF on residential areas of Aleppo, according to accounts.

These attacks came a day after a series of strikes attributed to SDF fighters left at least five people dead and 16 others wounded on Tuesday.

In response, the army’s Operations Authority said the two neighborhoods would be designated closed military zones starting at 3 p.m. local time (1200 GMT). Civilians were urged to keep away from SDF positions, and a total ban on movement within the two districts was announced from that time onward.
