Syrian crews rescue twenty-five from Homs floods

(MENAFN) Syrian emergency teams rescued 25 people after rising rivers and flash floods trapped families in rural areas of central Homs province, the country’s emergency and disaster management minister reported Tuesday.

Raed Saleh said in a post on the social media platform X that civil defense crews rescued a second group of 13 people—mostly women and children—who had been stranded on the roof of their home in the village of Um Jame’ in the Tal Kalakh area of western Homs after a river overflowed.

With this operation, the total number of civilians rescued overnight reached 25, primarily women and children, thanks to rapid and sustained emergency response efforts. Saleh added that no other families remained trapped in the area.

He noted that civil defense teams will continue to remain on full, round-the-clock readiness to safeguard lives and respond to emergencies.

On Monday, the Syrian Civil Defense reported rescuing 12 people—three children, seven women, and two elderly men—from another home in the same village after floodwaters surrounded the building.

In a related development, emergency crews in Idlib province responded to multiple incidents caused by heavy rainfall. A TV channel reported that teams drained stormwater, cleared blocked channels in and around Idlib city, and pumped water from several displacement camps.

In addition, crews opened drainage channels in Harem after flash floods, set up warning signs, and assisted a stranded vehicle in Saraqib, the channel said.
